ALBUQUERQUE,
NEW MEXICO
MIXED
USE
STUDY
Focused on improving entertainment opportunities and business growth in downtown Albuquerque this study looked conceptually at developing a mixed-use district adjacent to the existing convention center in downtown Albuquerque.
The development incorporated the existing convention center, a new headquarters hotel with retail, a restaurant district, residential development, a 12,000 seat events center and associated structured parking.
One of the most significant design challenges of the study was the presence of an existing rail line bisecting the site. To deal with this element safely an elevated plaza affectionately dubbed the "train shed" was developed. Portions of the train shed are covered enabling it to become a shared outdoor multi-purpose space and entrance to the arena on the west side.
